My Braiding Buddy

My Braiding Buddy

Here is my dear old ‘braiding buddy’, resting on the first braided rug I ever made, my kitchen sink rug. Her name is Skeezy, and she’s at least 16 years old now. Sometimes she drives me nuts, puking on my rugs, scratching up my door trim, and leaving fur all over everything, but, well, I still like her hanging around and keeping me company. Who else would I talk to all the time?

The rug is not quite as old as she is, and in fairly good shape for being in such a high-traffic, mega-abuse area. The bright blue color is from an old wool coat that I loved and wore through high school and at my wedding, so I have fond memories tied to it. Not to mention the pride I felt in completing my very first rug- I had struggled for two or three days trying to get the last two rows butted via pictures from a book, and when it suddenly was right, I wasn’t quite sure how I managed to do it (and I’ve never attempted to do it the same way since!)

So now I have a bit of an emotional attachment to it, and it will probably stay in some hidden corner of my house somewhere, long after it’s useful public life is over. But that time is a ways off yet.
